What is GLA:D?
It is an evidence-based practice treatment program for patients with symptomatic knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. It is an education and neuromuscular exercise program developed in Denmark. The program has be shown to produce positive long term outcomes ( 1year post program) in over 10,000 patients.
What were the results from Denmark?
- A 27% reduction in pain intensity
- A 37%-45% reduction in use of joint related pain medications
- An over 30% increase in self-reported
- physical activity levels
How do you get started?
Call 705-523-2471 to schedule an initial assessment with a Reg. Physiotherapist. The assessment is approximately a hour long with the cost of $90 (covered by extended health benefits), to be followed by 12 exercise sessions and 2 education sessions at $12/session.
What can to expect in the exercise session?
Training takes place in a group setting, under the supervision of a Reg. Physiotherapist. It consists of 3 sections : warm up on a bike, a circuit neuromuscular exercise section and a cool down.
The classes are kept small to all the PT to modify exercises on an individual basis.
What to wear?
Comfortable exercise clothes and indoor running shoes.
